The National Bank (TNB) received the latest edition of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard certification (PCI-DSS) by the PCI Security Standards Council. The certification was granted following a comprehensive audit carried out by certified auditors that included the main data center, the backup site, ATMs in the West Bank, the Watany Online and Mobile services, and credit and debit cards.
The certificate was handed over by Rabie Barakat, a certified auditor at the PCI Security Standards Council, to the Assistant Chief Executive Officer for Information Technology at TNB, Adel Hassan, during an official ceremony at TNB’s headquarters attended by TNB’s CEO, Salameh Khalil, and a number of Board members.
In a comment on the event, Khalil expressed pride in the certificate, noting that it is a new international recognition of TNB that promotes its regional and global positions. It confirms that TNB complies with the highest global standards for electronic payment transactions and data security. TNB passed all the required checks, which confirms, once again, that customers' data security is a priority and that TNB provides a safe environment for their electronic transactions and meets their various banking requirements through its latest and most secure technologies.
On his part, Hassan added that TNB always seeks to implement all global security standards and the best policies and methodologies to protect its data assets. He noted that TNB was one of the first banks in the region to adopt the Zero Trust Methodology, which provides a comprehensive solution to ensure a fully secure access to TNB’s applications, services and platforms. Such solutions establish trust in users and authenticated devices. They continuously monitor each access attempt, using customized security policies that protect all applications and help in reducing, detecting and responding to security and cyber risks thanks to TNB’s systems and tools.
For his part, Barakat said, “I am proud to present the PCI-DSS certification to TNB today. The bank has invested time, effort and resources to enhance its security, and meet the strict requirements of the PCI Security Standards Council. It is great to see a leading Palestinian banking institution striving for high standards of security, flexibility and protection of its services and customers’ data. It is a testament to the dedication and commitment to excellence by TNB’s management and team.”
