The National Bank (TNB) announced today that it will be exclusively sponsoring the “Sports for Life” team of the Tulkarem Girls Camp to represent Palestine in the Street Child World Cup, held in parallel with the 2022 World Cup in Doha, Qatar. The announcement came during the uniform handover ceremony, in cooperation with the Palestine Sports for Life Association (PS4L), represented by its director, Tamara Awartani, and in the remarkable presence of the women's department of the Palestinian Football Association.
In his speech during the uniform handover ceremony, TNB CEO, Salameh Khalil, stressed that sponsoring Sports for Life girls at the Tulkarem refugee camp is consistent with the bank’s mission to empower Palestinian women and girls in various sectors. It is also based on our national responsibility to raise the name of Palestine and our just cause in international fora. It also highlights the situation of Palestinian refugee camps through a widely followed international event using the common language of sports uniting people despite their differences.
On her part, Awartani indicated that the participation of the girls’ football team is in line with the institution’s goals to empower Palestinian girls, especially in marginalized areas, in their right to play football and develop their life skills, in addition to providing education opportunities and focusing on the importance of education in line with sustainable development goals. The team will also participate in activities including art festivals and a congress led by children to advocate children’s rights and the right to education, represent Palestine and tell the world that “we are here.” On behalf of the Palestine Sports for Life organization, Awartani thanked the management of TNB represented by the bank’s CEO Salameh Khalil for believing in empowering girls and giving them the opportunity to exchange cultures and represent their country.
It is worth noting that this is the first time that Palestine has been chosen to participate in the Children's World Cup / Doha 2022, which is held once every 4 years in preparation for the start of the World Cup matches in the same host country. The tournament mainly aims to shed light on the issues of the less fortunate countries in the world and help them raise their voice in such a global event. Palestine is participating as one of 12 international teams, namely India, Bangladesh, Brazil, Darfur, Bolivia, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the USA and Zimbabwe.
